Jeju city is the capital of Jeju Special AutonomousProvincewith an areaof 977.7 square kilometersand a population of 434, 000, and it isapolitical, economic, educa- tional and cultural center aswell asatrans- portation hub of sea, land and air of this province. Jeju isa southwestern island iso- lated from Hanbando, with 154 kilometers to thenorth of Mokpo city, 304 kilometers to the northeast Busan and 255.1 kilome- tersto theeast of Tsushimacity in Japan.
